3 Awesome Kitchen Trends

I don’t have to explain to you how important the kitchen is to a home. It’s the heart, soul, and stomach of the family. It’s where we connect with love ones, do homework, and craft wonderful meals. Kitchen trends are typically the easiest to follow as they change year by year. Here are three trends that I’ve seen in the market lately that I think you’ll enjoy.

Who said that the kitchen needed to be so monochromatic? Installing a different color base cabinet than the upper allows for the contrasting of flooring and wall color with the cabinets. Traditionally, the lower cabinets are darker than the uppers which is great for giving the room a “lighter” feel. Not only can the cabinets differ in color, but also in texture and finishes. Imagine a dark walnut lower cabinets, painted white upper cabinets, and a grey-toned floor.

Yeah, I know this sounds crazy at first. But let me explain. If your family is anything like mine, the dishwasher is running if not everyday, then every other day. Now, imagine instead of emptying the dishwasher just to fill it up with the same dirty dishes a few days later. You take the dishes out of the clean washer, use them, and place them in the other, now empty dishwasher. Because we tend to use the same dishes and utensils over and over, this eliminates the unnecessary step of putting them away in the cabinets. And, as a bonus benefit: it makes the post-party cleanup a snap using both dishwashers. Let this trend marinate for a few days. It’ll start to make sense.

I can hear you now saying, “Where am I going to put all my stuff?” Easy, by utilizing open shelves. There are three great benefits of the upper-less kitchen design:

1. It forces you to get rid of unnecessary things
2. Forces you to maximize your base cabinet space by installing pullout drawers
3. It provides a way to display your pretty glassware. Yes, there’s more dusting involved, but by rotating your glassware, the dust doesn’t have time to gather. I’ve also heard of people doing a glassware only cleaning in the dishwasher to make them sparkle.
